Canada: GDP still down but domestic demand comes out of recession
Latest: -3.4% (actual); -3.0% (expected); previous: -6.1% (revised from -5.4%) FACTS: Canadian GDP declined for a third consecutive quarter at an annualized rate of -3.4% in Q2 2009, compared to a downwardly revised 6.1% drop in Q1. Real final domestic demand edged up 0.4% from -6.0% in the previous quarter. Consumption advanced 1.8%, its first increase since Q3 2008. After four straight quarterly declines, consumption of durable goods rose 6.0% in Q2 and consumption of services rose 1.7%.
